This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus. Peter, James and John accompanied Jesus up the mountain, if Transfiguration, as we heard in the Gospel, something unexpected happened. Many times when we follow the Lord, he leads us to magnificent heights that we can never begin to conceive prior to that experience.
When the 3 Disciples witnessed the apparition of Moses and Elijah, and Jesus appeared in hush glorified body, they were struck with awe and wonder. Imagine walking along side the Lord and getting a true glimpse of the Kingdom of God. I don’t know about you, but the response of the Disciples is much like the one I would make.
When the Lord leads us to true mountain top experiences and we come face to face with God, the last thing we want to do is come back down the mountain! We want to experience the glory and the ecstasy as long as God will allow! But, just like with the Disciples in our Gospel, we have to come back down to our every day lives and face the tough realities and crosses that God places before us. May we give praise and thanks to God for the glimpses of eternity that we are given, and may they give us the strength to truly bare the weight of our crosses!
