30th Sunday in Ordinary Time

What does it mean for us to Love the Lord, our God with all of our heart, soul, and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves? This line from our Gospel this weekend is the crux of the message of Christ! It is the lens with which we, as Disciples, are meant to view the world around us and to live and live by, but for many of us, it is easier to contemplate then to actually live by these words!

In our first reading this weekend from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, we hear Ezekiel telling us to “not molest or oppress an alien, for we were once aliens in the land of Egypt.” He is reminding us the same fact that Christ reminds us of in our Gospel, to treat others as we wish to be treat, but also to love our neighbor in the stranger. It is so east in our day and age to allow politics to shape and frame our minds and our attitudes, but the message from God is the same; yesterday, today, and forever! Love God, love neighbor!

So, when confronted with people or situations that are foreign to us, may we see the goodness of God resounding in them, and seek to greet them as we pray the Lord will greet us on the day of judgment.
