29th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Render unto Caesar, what is Caesar’s and render unto God what is God’s.” This line from our Gospel this weekend is well quoted in society, but what is it that Jesus is attempting to tell us by it? How many times do we forget to consider the love of God in daily life interactions, but at the same time blame God for things that have nothing to do with Him and His interactions with us?

The Lord makes it simple for us, but we choose to overcomplicate, at times, what it means for us to be a follower of Christ! Christ tells us that His yoke is easy, and His burden is light, but, at times, we make a mess when we allow sin to enter our hearts. When we follow the guidance of sin rather than the love of God, it makes it difficult at times to see through the lens that the Lord intends. This is where many times we get upset with God because things aren’t going quite the way that we want them to.

So, what do we do? We look to the ways of love to justify our actions! No matter what life may bring to us, if we use love as our litmus, we won’t become begrudging to God as the pharisees were in this weekend’s Gospel. They sought to test Jesus and find Him in sin and heresy, Jesus however, as He is the Second person of the Trinity, and is Truly God, shows them and therefore us, the way we should walk.
